FREE BRA FITTINGS
Lane Bryant will be offering free bra fittings today and tomorrow May 15 and May 16, 2009. They are also having a great sale on bras as well. Any Cacique bra that you buy you earn 100 points to go towards a future purchase at their store when using your Lane Bryant charge card. I purchased 2 Cacique bras and I must say they do fit pretty good and are very comfortable.
Personally, I’m not charging anything on my credit cards right now and paid cash but I did receive a $25.00 Real Women Dollars Card since I spent $50.00 or more with this purchase. Think about it, you can use these to buy anything in the store…including Spanx, there are no restrictions on these cards concerning your purchases!!! They do this promotion 4 times a year, so remember to get your cards for every 50 bucks spent and then turn around and get yourself some shapewear while your shopping at Lane Bryant. These coupons are redeemable starting June 1- June 17, 2009. I love this time of year with Lane Bryant, this is when I purchase for Spring and Summer and stock up on Spanx.
P.S. Here are some more goodies at the bottom of this page for discounts at Lane Bryant.
Looking your best for less just got easier with Sara Blakely Shapewear brand Assets. From camisoles to shaping panties, you have a selection to cover your shapewear needs. Being sensitive to the consumer pocket, this line of shapewear is just what the doctor ordered. Everyone can afford to buy a piece here and there and build a strong shapewear wardrobe that is second to none.
Sara Blakely, the inventor of the shapewear powerhouse Spanx, has done her homework and brought the consumers some well needed pieces at great prices.
Shapewear was made to tame the frame and work wonders for women of all shapes and sizes. When shopping for shapewear, you may want to consider what type of shapewear you are shopping for. I have found that shapewear basically comes in two different types; compression based and hosiery based. Compression based shapewear will be made with latex, lycra and spandex. Examples of this type would be Flexees shapewear and Vedette shapewear, andthen of course, hosiery based shapewear will be made of pantyhose type material which would include Spanx and Bodywrap type brands.
When shopping for shapewear ask yourself, what do I want this shapewear to do for me? Do I want it to hold me in? If that is the case, then a compression type shapewear would be what you are looking for. If you are looking to smooth out your silhouette and something light, then you would go with a hosiery based shapewear for those little imperfections like cellulite on the buttock area or thighs. Got muffin top? Conquer the battle of the bulge with a high-waist compression model. There are many brands to choose from in shapewear that will attend to your needs, all you have to do is go online or to your local mall.
Shapewear has the ability to cover the flaws and imperfections of the figure allowing you to look your best. Shapewear cannot make a 250-pound woman look like she weighs 150 pounds but, it allows you to look your best in the body you were blessed with.
My obsession wearing shapewear I guess came from my childhood. As an African American female, part of my social upbringing involved going church services. As a little girl I used to sit in the pew on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for church, Bible study, and weekday services. I used to love watching all the sisters in the church walk around in their Sunday best. What was really fun was to watch those who would come to church not dressed their best. What I mean by not best dressed is for example, wearing a suit two sizes too small with the skirt cupped underneath the buttocks with VPL (visible panty line) coming down the middle, or an ill-fitting white bra under a white silk blouse peeking out a suit coat. What I really loved were those sisters who would sit in the folded chairs and I could look at the rolls on their backs in their tightly fitting dresses and count them one by one. It is amazing how many ladies looked in the mirror that Sunday morning and said, “Yeah I’m looking good”, knowing that the skirt they were wearing was too small, the wrong cut for their physique, or needed to wear a girdle. I guess the big hats they were wearing were supposed to deflect your attention to their hats instead!
Offering time exposed all the hanging guts, waving floppy arms, VPL, ill-fitting bras, spare tires, peek-a-boo slips, and hanging breasts. Let’s not forget the cellulite-ridden thighs, jiggling buttocks and stockings with runs. If I were the fashion police, I would be standing at the end of that offering aisle handing out tickets to the tune of thousands for such grievous infractions. I call that truly a “sin” on Sunday to come out in public like that.
As a child I made a mental note to put on the shelf not emulate these ladies and cover myself well and make sure I was not a victim of VPL and the myriad of fashion faux pas. When I put on the pounds I found myself a good girdle and I still wear one because let’s be honest, everyone does not want to see your rolls. The outside appearance whether you like it our not, makes an impression on those around you. It says a lot about who you are.
If you looked in the mirror before you left your house, what would you see? If you saw a tire, hanging gut or cellulite thighs, buy some Spanx shapewear. If your arms are jiggling, buy some Slimpressions arm shapewear. Got backfat? Buy a Sassybax bra. Are you a plus-sized diva, then most shapewear runs in your size. Jill Scott has a brand of plus size bras called the Butterfly Collection for plus-sized women. If you don’t find your size there, check out my shapewear store, I have a section especially for larger cup sizes.
There is no excuse for looking shabby when you step outside of your door. From Target to Nordstrom’s, there is an option for women to purchase shapewear that will do the job. If your pinching pennies in this recession, look for sales. My newsletter can alert you when products go on sale. Sign up. I’m here to help you look your best dressed from the inside out.
In closing, shapewear can be your best friend and help you put your best foot forward. My adventure into the world of shapewear was inspired by my childhood exposure to wardrobe misfittings and heavily engrained in me how a real lady should dress and the options in women’s shapewear foundations that can help make it happen.

I was listening to the radio today and apparently Angelina Jolie has undergone a tummy tuck to improve her figure after having twins. She apparently is calling it a “Mommy Tuck”. It’s funny how celebs make up their own words and the press runs with it like it is a new Webster’s Dictionary term. Do you guys remember when the word “gravitas” was all the rage during the election 8 years ago?
Since we are talking about ”Mommy Tucks” I just wanted to send a shout out to all new moms whether it’s your first or tenth. Having kids can take a toll on your body, especially the stomach area. Girdle shapewear are something you can have in your arsenal that will give the appearance of being pounds slimmer without going on a diet. If you’ve just had a little one the last thing on your mind is counting calories. The only thing you want to count are sheep with the late nights sitting up with your new addition to the family. Shapewear gives the advantage of looking good without the extra effort.
When time is short and its time to get dressed and run to the store, you can always look svelt and lean using your shapewear. For my ladies who have had C-sections, it’s my opinion that the brand Yummie Tummie would be the best overall pick. The YT shapewear have the appearance of really nice tank tops but inside they have a panel that hold in the stomach without the extra binding effect of a panty girdle. This would be my number one pick until your well healed of course, then you can bind yourself up as tight as you like. Being a mom is hard work and there are just times where we need that extra “ump” to add an extra kick in our step in order to tackle our day and don our many hats. Women’s shapewear help you achieve to that goal.
